Burin Peninsula

(Ok, I've cleared this one by Environment Canada, and the wife. We're good for launch... assuming anyone can be free middle of the week on short notice.)

Anyone up for riding around the Burin Peninsula (to/from St. John's) this Thursday (October 15th)?

By tomorrow afternoon we should have a good picture on the weather. Right now, it appears that rain, starting Tuesday night, will carry over into the early morning of Wednesday. It may be enough to show up in the forecast for Wednesday, but be clearing by the time we leave St. John's. In other words, don't panic!

Route A: (558 km, 6h + stops)
  • Trans Canada Highway at Pitts Memorial Drive
  • St. Bernard's-Jacques Fontaine
  • Harbour Mille
  • Bay L'Argent
  • return

Route B: (704 km, 8h + stops)
  • Trans Canada Highway at Pitts Memorial Drive
  • St. Bernard's-Jacques Fontaine
  • Harbour Mille
  • Bay L'Argent
  • Marystown
  • Frenchman's Cove
  • Garnish
  • return

Possible Side Trips (729 km in total)

  • If anyone is interested in a parallel detour on the way to Mary's Town: Baine Harbour, Rushoon, and Red Harbour looked like 20 km of partly gravel, possibly unmaintained, road.
  • Also on the way to Mary's Town: Rock Harbour is about 10 km, return, from Route 210, near Mary's Town.

Any other stop or suggestions welcome. (I will be looking for any lighthouse notches to complete.)

P.S. It's 840 km to add in Fortune and Lawn. If you're hell bent on it, I won't say no... but it is a long day!
