Help me learn about NL

Hi ridetherock forumites,
Dave from Richmond, VA here.
With a little luck, I'll be in NL on two wheels for at least 8 days, maybe 2 weeks sometime next year. Sometime between June and mid September.

This post is to ask for something different: to help me understand the place and the people. I'm reading books, notably by Patrick Flaherty (Come near if you dare is my favorite so far, although 25 years old), geology guides, and a history. The Newfoundlan dictionary is on order. My goal is to be a good and attentive guest when I visit. Any and all advice on what to read and learn before I come would greatly appreciated.

I would be pleased and grateful to receive any and all advise about places to stay, see and ride. If you have an absolute "must do" - or equally useful a "don't bother" suggestion, that would be welcome. FWIW, my bucket list includes Gros Morne, L'Anse aux Meadows, St. Anthony, and maybe St. Mary's to see the birdies. St. Barbe to Red Bay and a day trip to France also are very appealing. St. John's is not high on the list but maybe it should be. Trying to keep the mileage at 500km day or less. I want to smell the roses, take some photos, and meet some people. Plan to hotel rather than camp. I've already received some excellent if brief guidance from damurph and Bobcycle (advrider.com handles) already. But to be clear, it's the paragraph above that is the main goal of this post/request for guidance.

Many thanks in advance.
