'New' Bike recommendations needed

On Thursday Mike and I rode up to Wilno and back, a 435km round trip. We used to ride up there often back in the Ducati/BMW days. This time I was on my DR650. I wasn't exhausted or sore when we got home but I could have been a lot more comfortable. I'm thinking perhaps that a replacement for the DR is in order. I don't ride on gravel very much now, most of our roads are paved. I ride the BSA when the weather is right (ie, not too cold, I can't plug in my heated jacket on the BSA). So the DR isn't getting a lot of use these days.

We'd been trailering bikes behind either our Sportwagon TDI (diesel) or our camper but now we have no camper and our new Sportwagon is a TSI (gas) with less torque. We don't think trailering the Vstrom and the DR for thousands of kms would be a good idea with this car.

I'm missing travelling on a motorcycle. So I'm looking into buying a middleweight (650) bike that I can comfortably ride distances on, load up with a bit of luggage, with a bit of wind protection.

I'm looking for suggestions. Used. Japanese, two or three cylinders and easy to do home oil changes and other routine maintenance. Not expensive. No more than 430lbs curb weight. I'll need to be able to change the handlebars if necessary

(I'm done with expensive European parts and labour costs).

We know about the SV650, has anyone here done any lightweight touring on one? I'll need a topbox and windshield.

Any other bikes you can suggest?VIRB0385.JPG
